About This Project:

Mole Hill is the last surviving block of pre-World War One housing stock in Vancouver.  This city block began in 1888 and has the most significant examples of Vancouver’s Edwardian and Victorian residential architecture.  The first home at 1160 Comox Street was built in 1888 and by the end of 1912, 30 additional homes still listed on the Vancouver Heritage Registry, stood on the block.  Time took its toll on these homes and the Province of BC stepped in to support the restoration of this heritage community know as Mole Hill.  In 2000-2006, construction-restoration began.  Maintaining and restoring the heritage features of these houses was a major priority.  Heritage features both inside and outside of these homes were retained.  It was at this time that Vintage Woodworks was called upon to be a part of this incredible project.  Our role in this project included restoration of various windows, doors, mouldings, siding, brackets, gingerbread, spirals, railings, and spindles.  We were a part of 26 of these 30 homes.  Since that time, you can also see Vintage’s storm windows dotting the streetscape.

If you go to there today, you will find these homes on Comox and Pendrell Streets and in between Bute and Thurlow.
